Primary health care is essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of self-reliance and self-determination.
It forms an integral part both of the country’s health system, of which it is the central function and main focus, and of the overall social and economic development of the community. It is the first level of contact of individuals, the family and community with the national health system bringing health care as close as possible to where people live and work, and constitutes the first element of a continuing health care process.
ETHC has 10 of its practices a part of Total Healthcare Otara, while Sylvia park and Sandringham practices are a part of Tamaki and Procare PHOs respectively.
Total Healthcare Otara (THO) is a primary health organisation (PHO) funded by Counties Manukau District Health Boards (CMDHB) to provide essential primary health care services to those people who are enrolled with THO. THO has been bringing together doctors, nurses and other health professionals that includes community health workers, health promotion teams, dieticians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, psychologists and midwives in the community to serve the health needs of the enrolled population. ETHC provides quality medical care regardless of race, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, handicap, age, or ability to pay. Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operations and stability of ETHC, it is recognized that not all individuals possess the ability to pay for essential medical services, and further more, our mission is to serve the community with respect to healthcare and healthcare education, therefore keeping with ETHC’s commitment to serve all members of the community,ETHC provides the following:
- Free and or subsidized care to all
- Care at below cost; and
- Healthcare activities and programs to support the community
These activities include wellness programs, community education programs, and a broad variety of community support services.
