It offers vast array of programs, initiatives and events that highlight ETHC’s continued commitment to the community. Each year, we develop new programs and initiatives to address health needs of our community and we take initiative to fulfill our community’s service expectations.

Community service is central to ETHC’s mission. The ETHC family has strong commitment to serving our community, as well as providing comprehensive, compassionate and high quality healthcare to every person who seeks our help.

MAORI HEALTH

Maori patients, along with all other ethnicities in the enrolled population, benefit from referral to specialized programmes and clinical and non-clinical service delivery. The Maori Health Plan aims to strengthen Maori participation at all levels and provide support systems that enable whanau to achieve their maximum health and wellbeing. Some of the recommendations which are currently being developed for implementation include the following:

  • Employment of a Maori Health Champion
  • Sponsorship for Maori Nurses for Training
  • Whanau Consultations
  • Inter sector collaboration
  • Cultural Greetings
  • Bi Cultural Training of THO Staff

PACIFIC HEALTH

One third of the Pacific population in Counties Manukau is enrolled with ETHC. ETHC can be called the biggest Pacific Provider in New Zealand. Fortunately many of our nursing, clinical assistant and reception staff is able to speak Pacific language.

At present ETHC, through THO, is looking at strengthening Pacific community relationships in order to support and empower community champions and promote sustainable health gains for Pacific Peoples.

INDIAN AND LARGER ASIAN COMMUNITY’S HEALTH

ETHC have been involved in delivering health forums and education session at Indian community based settings for the past 15 years. It has organized Breast Screening and Cervical Cancer Education, diabetes, Cardio vascular screening to women’s groups at Manukau in Auckland and at the New Zealand Indian Women’s Conferences. ETHC run Self Management Education sessions at the local sikh and hindu temple.

ETHC has been engaging with the community leaders, community networks, PHOs and Providers to promote healthcare programmes and raising health standards of the Larger Indian Community.
