Pneumovax

 
Pneumovax is a vaccine used to help prevent infections caused by certain types of germs or bacteria called Pneumococcus.
 
Pneumococcal infection is an important cause of diseases such as
  • pneumonia
  • meningitis
  • middle ear infection 
  • blood infections.
You may benefit from a pneumovax vaccination if you:
  • have a weakened immune system
  • have had your spleen removed
  • have chronic heart, lung, kidney or liver disease
  • have diabetes, HIV/AIDS
  • are alcoholic
  • have had pneumonia previously.

This vaccine is expected to provide you with protection for up to five years.
 
You will be expected to wait for 20 minutes after your vaccination to check for a reaction.
