Manurewa Marae "Strengthening Families" Event 2013

On Tuesday 16 July the Manurewa Marae on Finlayson St hosted the “Strengthening Families” Event. The event was planned with the local Police, and was prefaced by a stunning powhiri. Clinical Family Navigator Zhaobo Yang, Family Navigator Kathy Tarawa and Community Liaison Manager Joseph Liava'a were a part of the festivities, promoting rheumatic fever awareness and child safety. They spoke to many families about the importance of getting sore throats checked for the bug that can cause rheumatic fever
Rheumatic fever is a dreadful disease which affects mainly Pacific and Maori children, and can lead to huge problems with the heart. The important message to remember is
"Get your sore throat checked"
